Alquion secures a contract to build a 500 kW flexible electrolyser for Nyrstar
Alquion has taken the final investment decision for a 500 kW demonstration electrolyser at the site of the Nyrstar zinc smelter in Budel (NL). The Flexolyser is set to demonstrate, as a flexible electrolyser, that it can be switched on and off more than twenty times a day without suffering any degradation. This has been reported by Alquion.
The construction and operation of the project will cost a total of 10 million euros. The consortium partners will receive a grant of 3.7 million euros from the DEI+ scheme towards this. The installation is due to come into operation in the summer of 2027 and will run until 2029. According to Alquion, the electrolyser must be able to cope with downtimes of more than eight hours without compromising on safety, service life or efficiency.
